No 55 on our first trip to Slimbridge

As of 1st December 2022 it will have been a year since No 55 came into our lives.  In that time we have done about 3,000 miles, mostly on short Mon-Thur or Tues-Fri trips purposely avoiding the busy weekends.  We have been west to Bridport and Wales, east to Sandringham, as far north as Nottingham and down to the south coast at Hayling Island, mostly visiting places we haven't been before. We have also spent time in the New Forest and Somerset in old haunts.  Our first trip was to visit the WWT site at Slimbridge in mid-December - a good test run to a very quiet camp site just a short walk away from the birding.  Thankfully it proved that the heating was working fine (in fact, quite toastie in the van!) and that we had a bottle opener.  Unfortunately it also proved we didn't have a can opener!!!

Where we head for in the next year, nobody knows.  We will probably continue sticking around the UK although possibly further afield on longer trips.

We have continued to travel abroad (without No 55!!), still playing catch-up on Covid postponed holidays.  In February we headed for Belize on a holiday that was originally planned to be combined with Guatemala.  Unfortunately, the transition between the two countries under Covid restrictions was probably going to prove problematic so we decided to spend all our time in Belize.  In September, we took our retirement trip to Zanzibar and Tanzania (almost exactly a year late) and then in October we headed for an Art Nouveau themed trip to Nancy, France which we extended to cover Metz, Luxembourg and Brussels.

Don’t miss Peter’s

Chimp Encounter!!

In 2023, when not off in No 55, we plan more Covid catch-ups to Egypt to sail the Nile (18 months late) and then Borneo to see the Orang-Utans (2 years overdue).  Later in the year we will be sailing the Northwest Passage in Canada and also visiting Toronto, Ottawa & Montreal.

Happy travels
